subject: breakfast to go

my son recently got a job that requires him to be at work at 5:30 in the
morning. any ideas for breakfast that can be packed ahead to eat in the
car on
the way to work? cereal bars are only so good!

earl's restaurants is a chain in western canada (maybe elsewhere, too).
amongst earl's great menu offerings is a *really delicious* thai salad
made, we would say, with angel hair pasta. the sauce does not seem to
be clogged with peanut butter, but has a very satisfying bite to it that
doesn't overwhelm the underlying asian flavours which seem to be sesame
oil or tahini, soy sauce, maybe ginger, lime, and definitely cilantro.
it contains a few slivered veggies, and a sprinkling of peanuts..

if anyone has the earl's recipe for the sauce, or a clone, we'd love
see it posted to this group.

tia for any help.

all my life i've eaten this pizza from west virginia called dicarlo's.
you buy it for about 69 cents by the slice.
the crust is thin and crunchy. i've never tasted the same kind of
sauce anywhere else. the cheese and pepperoni is put on after the
pizza comes out of the oven, then it melts and warms up as you eat it.
it's, by far, the best pizza i've ever had.

i'm trying to find a recipe to make my own pizza like dicarlos.
does anyone know how to make your own crust so that it's thin (about
3/4") and crunchy? or do you know of a place (web site or book) that
might have some good ideas?

i'd really appreciate it! in the meantime, i'll be reading other posts
about making homemade pizza.

subject: broiled crab cake recipe

i see alot of recipes for fried crab cakes with either bread or craker
fillers. how are broiled crab cakes different? i've read some
restaurant reviews of broiled crab cakes and would love to try them on
a grill this summer.

thanks,
matsuo

years ago when i was stationed in pearl harbor i used to go into
honolulu and would go to the little mom and pop noodle shops for a
bowl of saimen soup. the broth was always excellent. the broth
tasted like it might be a combination of pork and chicken but i
haven't been able to recreate it. i wonder if anyone on this group has
a recipe.
