|
you could use this recipe but add cranberries and maybe some orange |
flavoring |
and some orange zest to it. |
|
|
4 cup | flour |
2 Tbsp | baking powder; rounded |
2 tsp | salt |
8 Tbsp | sugar |
14 Tbsp | crisco, butter flavor (2 tbsp short of a full stick!) |
1-1/3 cup | buttermilk |
| additional buttermilk, if needed |
| dried fruit |
|
sift together dry ingredients into a medium mixing bowl. cut in |
crisco using a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. add |
dried fruit and 2/3 cup milk, and stir just until all is moistened and |
there are no dry crumbs on the bottom or sides of the bowl. add 1 - 2 |
tbsp milk and stir until it all comes together in a mass. |
dump out onto a lightly floured counter. knead 10 times. roll out |
3/4 inch and cut with 1 inch biscuit cutter. place on parchment lined |
baking sheet and sprinkle with sugar if desired. heat oven to 450. let |
rest 10 minutes while the oven is heating up. |
let scones bake 10 -12 minutes or until tops are golden. |
|
for the dried fruit i usually use a combination of dried cranberries, |
or craisins as they are called, and white raisins. i have used dried |
blueberries with good success. |
